Four of a Kind: Kings High
Boynton Beach - May 14th & 15th, 2005

Throughout the work week, I had been keeping a close eye on the marine forecast for the upcoming weekend. The National Weather Service was reporting a beautiful "2ft or less" weekend. But of course, the seas made a turn for the worse as soon as the weekend arrived.

Curse of the Bonnetheads
Niles Channel Bridge - January 28th, 2005

This was my third trip to Summerland Key since July 2004. At this rate, it seems like I'm going every three months. Each trip has offered different weather and seasonal conditions. Each trip has produced a different sort of fishing action. And each trip had it's own storyline. This one is no exception.

Joe's Night
Pompano Beach Pier - October 2, 2004

With Maine lobster and filet mignon in our bellies, we loaded up to do some nighttime fishing. The wind was kickin', the current was rippin', but the fish just weren't hittin'... Correction: They weren't hittin' anyone's lines, but Joey D's.

Fishin' with Jeanne
Pompano Beach Pier - September 24, 2004

It was the fourth time Floridians stock-piled supplies, filled gas tanks, and shuttered homes in the past six weeks. I've learned from the past few hurricanes that evacuations and curfews make fishing on the coast damn near impossible in the days during and after a big storm. So I went fishing while I could.

Good Incentive
Spanish River Beach - August 29, 2004

I’ve never been a morning person. The snooze button typically takes a lot of abuse before I roll out of bed, late for work. But add the incentive of a possible encounter with a Silver King, and waking up before dawn on a weekend suddenly becomes worthwhile.

Too Big, Too Soon
Pompano Beach Pier - August 21, 2004

My alarm screamed at 5am. I struggled to open my eyes. It was still dark outside my bedroom window. The first thought that stumbled through my mind: "Why the hell am I waking up this early on a Saturday?"

Quarter-Mile on the Nile
Niles Channel Bridge - July 9th, 2004

The final night of my 4 days in the Keys, I was invited to do an "all-nighter" of bridge fishing with some friends. It was the first time I had fished a bridge in the Florida Keys at night. I will definately do it again... but next time I'll bring a bigger rod.
